By nature a devil hides its identity; it wants to appear to us in fictive form. The social sciences and humanities have succumbed to its arts – they have forgotten about Satan and the very mention of him has become unscholarly. In the first issue of State of Affairs, authors point out various demons in scholarship and exorcise them. The issue also contains an extensive review section, including reviews of books by Andrzej Waśkiewicz, Tomasz Zarycki, Agata Bielik-Robson, and Paweł Rojko.
