Sociology of Knowledge as a Therapy of Public Discourse

Abstract

The author starts with considering Charles W. Mills’s solution to the issue of sociologists’ involvement. The solution, which is criticized both directly and indirectly, is deemed unsatisfactory. The sociology of knowledge appears to present a tool for the amendment. The article argues that only the non-classical sociology of knowledge associated with the analysis of scientific knowledge solves the problem. It does it unintentionally, by universalizing the ethics as a necessary and only means of legitimization for any social change.
